Richmond Old City Hall

Old City Hall in Richmond, Virginia is a historic building that stands as a testament to the city’s rich past. Built in 1894, it served as the center of Richmond’s municipal government until the 1970s, and now serves as a museum and event space. The building is an iconic landmark in the city, and its distinctive architecture and ornate detailing make it a must-see destination for anyone interested in history or architecture.

The building was designed by Richmond architect Elijah E. Myers, who is also known for his work on the Texas State Capitol and the U.S. Treasury Building in Washington, D.C. Old City Hall is a fine example of Victorian Romanesque Revival architecture, with its prominent tower, rounded arches, and ornate stonework. The building is constructed of Virginia granite and sandstone, and its exterior features intricate carvings and decorative elements.
