Project Description
Johns Hopkins hospital first plans were by architect John Niernsee who focused on the hospital buildings around an open courtyard and red brick and glass imported from France. The Boston architectural firm of Cabot and Chandler completed the design with structures made of red brick, trimmed with Cheat River stone, a blue sandstone from West Virginia and molded terra-cotta. It took over 12 years to build before opening in 1889.
Historic restoration of cast iron perimeter fencing, roof cupola, railings, copper entrance lanterns, balconies, canopies and bronze plaques.
