Project Description
The canopy at 64 University Place appears simple but comes with a complex story. The team at Allen Metals provided design-assist services and value engineering for a fully cantilevered canopy system. The initial design exceeded the established budget, so we developed a solution that maintained architectural intent while reducing cost.
Key challenges included the absence of tie-rods and the requirement to match the canopy's arched geometry to the existing brick façade. Working closely with the engineer of record, we introduced a reinforced attachment plate and anchor system to achieve the necessary rigidity. A field template was pulled directly off the façade to ensure dimensional accuracy of the radius.
The result is a structurally sound, visually integrated canopy that meets both performance and budget requirements.
