Book Tower – Lobby Bar
The Book Tower Lobby Bar, envisioned by ODA Architecture in NYC, began simply as an idea and a rendering. Allen Metals was hired for design assistance by C/B & Bedrock to develop detailed construction documents to fabricate this complicated structure. Allen Metals was also responsible for the engineering analysis to support not only the curved structure of the bar, but the curved beveled glass, cabinetry, and needs for both the kitchen and bar. The lobby bar posts, structure, decorative scalloped elements, interior structure, finish painting, and installation were all handled by Allen. The lobby bar was scanned, designed for fabrication, dry fit in Alabama, labeled, deconstructed, and finally installed in the Book Tower in Detroit, Michigan. It was fabricated from steel (structural steel tubing, steel pipe, waterjet cut steel plate for the fabricated support brackets) with cast iron ball finials and cast-iron escutcheon covers then painted with a metallic paint to give it the appearance of bronze.
