Job Description
Allen Architectural Metals is seeking a meticulous and experienced Quality Control Manager to join our team in Talladega, Alabama. In this pivotal role, you will ensure the highest quality standards in our metal fabrication and casting processes, driving our commitment to excellence in every project. The ideal candidate will possess an in-depth understanding of quality control practices in manufacturing, with specific experience in metalwork and casting. You will lead quality assurance initiatives, monitor production standards, and implement quality management systems that reinforce our reputation for unparalleled craftsmanship. Additionally, knowledge of pattern making and casting design will be beneficial, as our QC team collaborates closely with foundries to customize pattern setups for their unique operational processes.
Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance and Inspection:
- Develop and implement quality control processes and standards for all metal fabrication and casting operations.
- Conduct rigorous inspections of raw materials, in-process, and finished products to ensure they meet specified quality standards and client requirements.
- Use precision measurement tools and inspection techniques to assess the quality of metal castings, welds, and other fabrication details.
Pattern Making and Casting Design:
- Include prior knowledge and/or experience with pattern making and casting design in quality control assessments.
- Collaborate with Gerald and Rickey, who currently serve as QC on patterns, to ensure quality and compatibility with various foundries.
- Work with different foundries to design patterns that are tailored to each specific foundry’s pouring requirements, recognizing that each operates with unique processes and layout needs.
Process Improvement and Compliance:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and work with production teams to implement more efficient and effective quality measures.
- Ensure compliance with relevant quality standards (ISO, ASME, etc.) and industry regulations.
- Develop and maintain quality documentation, including inspection reports, quality metrics, and compliance records.
Defect Analysis and Problem Solving:
- Investigate quality defects, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to address quality issues and establish long-term solutions.
- Perform regular audits of manufacturing processes to identify and mitigate potential quality risks.
Quality Management System (QMS) Development:
- Establish, maintain, and continuously improve the Quality Management System (QMS) tailored to the unique requirements of metal fabrication and casting.
- Conduct regular QMS training sessions for production staff to promote a quality-focused culture.
- Ensure accurate documentation and traceability of quality control processes for each project phase.
Customer Relations and Communication:
- Act as a contact for customers regarding quality control matters, ensuring clear communication and quick resolution of any quality concerns.
- Provide detailed quality reports and inspection certifications as required for client projects.
- Collaborate with project managers and clients to define and clarify quality requirements at the project outset.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality control management within metal fabrication or manufacturing, preferably in an architectural metals’ environment.
- Strong knowledge of metalworking processes, casting standards, and quality control methodologies.
- Experience with pattern making and casting design as they relate to quality assurance in metal casting.
- Proficiency in quality control software, measurement tools, and statistical analysis tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and an analytical mindset.
- Strong communication skills, capable of liaising effectively with team members, clients, and management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Quality Engineering (CQE), Six Sigma, or equivalent.
- Experience in implementing ISO 9001 or other quality management systems.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements specific to architectural metals and castings.
Reporting Structure:
- Reports directly to the Vice President of Operations at Allen Architectural Metals.
- Collaborates closely with production and project management teams.

Job Summary:
The Lead Metal Technician/Preservation Specialist is a hands-on leadership role that supports the Shop Supervisor by coordinating and overseeing restoration, fabrication, and finishing work on architectural metal projects. This position combines technical expertise with team leadership, ensuring projects are executed to the highest standards of craftsmanship and quality. The Lead Technician works closely with a team of metal technicians, shop staff, and visiting conservators while also providing mentorship and guidance to ensure safety, efficiency, and excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Coordination:
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Shop Supervisor and project teams, communicating goals, timelines, and project requirements.
- Lead by example, setting a high standard of craftsmanship and work ethic.
- Train and mentor team members in metalworking techniques, patination, safety protocols, and restoration practices.
- Monitor progress on shop and field projects, ensuring work meets quality standards and deadlines.
Technical Execution:
- Oversee and participate in shop fabrication, repair, finishing, and patination processes, ensuring precision and adherence to specifications.
- Troubleshoot technical challenges during fabrication or restoration and provide innovative solutions.
- Assist in field installations, repairs, and conservation treatments, often in variable conditions and environments.
Quality Assurance and Safety:
- Ensure all work meets the company’s rigorous quality standards and aligns with project requirements.
- Inspect completed tasks for precision, craftsmanship, and compliance with restoration techniques.
- Enforce workplace safety policies and ensure tools, equipment, and materials are properly maintained.
Qualifications:
Experience and Education:
- High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree in craft, design, art, or related fields is a plus.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in metalworking, construction, preservation, or related fields.
- Must have experience in bronze patinas and general knowledge of metalworking and fabrication processes.
- Leadership or supervisory experience in a shop or field setting is strongly preferred.
Skills and Attributes:

General Purpose:
Responsible for creating models and drawings for custom decorative metal fabrications, mechanical connections, and engineered systems including conceptual through Issued for Construction deliverables for fabrication and field installation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design shop drawings in both 2D and 3D models from engineering and architectural documents and drawings.
- Incorporate site data captured via point clouds or site measurements and feedback.
- Demonstrate moderate to advanced drafting skills with the following software: AutoDesk, Inventor, AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
- Perform other project required duties as assigned by Lead Designer.
- Effective communication with Project Managers, Clients, and design teams.

Qualifications:
- Vocational training or Associates degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

These technicians will be working with our team during all stages of the construction process. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of all general ledger accounting data collection and reporting and serving as a business partner to manage cross-functional processes that intersect between Finance and Operations. This position will report to and follow the guidance of an off-site financial management team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the accurate recordkeeping and maintenance of all financial recordkeeping activities.
- Responsible for financial management activities such as billing, expense recording and budgeting.
- Provide job accounting assistance with Project Managers.
- Responsible for tactical execution of financial projects assigned by the off-site financial management team.
- Responsible for day-to-day partnering with operations to assist with procedures and administrative tasks.
- Serve as the contact point and engage with customers and vendors on a regular basis to maintain positive relationships.
- Assist or lead Human Resource and payroll initiatives.
- Complete office management activities as needed.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- This position will manage an onsite finance team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 5 years of hands-on accounting/finance experience
- Project Accounting Experience

- Management & leadership of field projects: Plan, direct, and execute each project phase
including pre-construction, construction, and closeout/and post construction services to
ensure efficient process & successful completion of projects; Leads, mentors, and manages

Contract Schedule of Values for approval by client - Safety: Responsible for overall project safety, obtaining final approval for a contractor-
submitted safety plan, and compliance with the project safety plan. Includes: compliance with
all regulatory (OSHA) requirements and AAM safety standards
Requirements & Skills
- Bachelor of Science in Construction Management Degree preferred
- Minimum of three years of construction related experience
- Experience in Structural Steel, Miscellaneous and Ornamental Metals preferred. Experience in
glass and glazing a plus. - Firsthand trade experience preferred.
- Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to perform in the following areas: estimating, scheduling, budgeting/cost control, field
supervision, financial reporting, client relationship, people skills, computer skills,
safety/insurance, and effective written and oral communication skills - Practical field credentials & a thorough understanding of corporate & industry practices,
processes & standards - Strong understanding of historic building preservation
- Ability to understand project specifications, Architectural and Structural drawings
- Experience with Procore preferred
- Word, excel, outlook and digital photo documentation are essential
- Familiarity with MS Project preferred
- Valid driver’s license or reliable transportation.
